Crusty bites

Pretzels are one of my favourite bread snacks. I absolutely adore them....especially when I was visiting Germany. Could not get enough of them.

Slightly salted, crusty on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside.....a forlorn sigh....if only I could have some NOW!! Not to mention they were quite large and very affordable.

Of course there is the franchise version of Aunty Nat which is very taste and I absolutely adore the sour cream one, probably because of the flavourings - yum yum.

Anyway, can't quite beat the ones I got from Germany which is usually munched with a great pint of BEER or larger (if you prefer) or even pilsner. And I can understand why as they are great combination.....eating pretzels can thirsty work and what else to quench it than BEER!!

Sometimes desperate people can do (well, try anyway) impossible things and in this case, I tried making them - yeah, homemade versions. This is actually my second attempt. The first time I didn't use slipmat or parchment paper and so had a very TOUGH time separatingtearing the paper from the bread *much to my dismay*.

This time around, was mindful of my former mistake and voila....I made some plain salted ones and some cheesy ones. Both were good. MP preferred the cheesy ones though.

Though they were not crusty even though I sprayed them with the bicarb soda mixture. Maybe they need to be dunked in that solution??? If anyone can offer me some advice, hints or tips, I'll be eternally grateful.

For the time being, back to the drawing board with this one. Otherwise, I'll have to make few thousand miles trip just to satisfy my craving.
