'Manly' bento (B#317)

This was a quick fuss free bento with no kyraben. If you remove the baran pictures, it would be a very 'adult' or 'manly' bento.

In this bento is some chicken floss sandwiches with pretzels, strawberries and kumquat.

My first time eating kumquat FRESH, usually the ones sold here have been dried and preserved with a lot of salt. Come to think of it, haven't had that for a long time too, since I was a little girl. Anyway, read in someone's blog that its the kumquat skin that exudes the most flavour & taste, I agree totally with it. But I'm not sure whether I actually like it, maybe just to be non-biased I should try a few more and see how it goes as already thinking of making some sweet preserves with the remaining bag!!

Yes, think you're right about the skin, since there's way more of it than the flesh in these tiny fruit, ha! I bet they would be great preserved. Can't wait to read about that :)

sheri, think its the seeds that make eating kumquat a little frustrating - there's so many of them!!

Ah! Kumquat is like not very popular before, but now in every supermarket and fruit store here sell it. Let's hope someone will come out with the idea to grow seedless kumquat like seedless grapes (??), is that possible? hehehe ... ;)

hey Susan, if u can get some sweet seedless ones - it would be pretty tasty. think kumquat candied or jam (without the seeds) taste best - we shall see, soaking the sliced kumquat, plan to cook it tonight :)
