Bentos # 206-209

For some bento FUN, don’t forget to submit your entry into the bento contest.

Read here for more information.

In the meantime, its back to my everyday 'normal' bentos posts.

Bento #209

J’s breakfast bento – Avocado and tuna sandwich with some hard boiled egg, endamame and orange slices. Added the cute tomato head container for some soya sauce.
The avocado and tuna filling came highly recommended from Pat, Emily and Kel. Truth be told, I'm not a fan of both ingredients but I must say it did taste nice, wished I had some freshly cracked black pepper though as it would have really enhanced and brought out the flavours. So instead, added some mayo and fish furikake and all I can say is YUM (wished I had sprinkled more though, ha ha).

Bento #208

DH’s breakfast bento – Tuna and avocado filled sandwich with cheese, apples, endamame and grapes.

Bento #207

MP’s breakfast bento – Was thinking of a balloons when I made this but erm, came out different than I imagined, Lolz!! Technical hitch of not having sufficient right picks.
Anyway, too late to change mind…..in the box contains some rolled jam sandwiches (used 2 different types of flavours), grapes, endamame and hard boiled egg with soya sauce in the small container.

Bento #206

Dinner bento – Angel hair pasta with ratatouille with some grated parmesan cheese (in green container), side servings of mash potatoes, slices of fresh tomatoes and mangoes.

Bentos # 201-204

Remember to JOIN in the bento fun contest/challenge. Find out more about it here.

As promised and to get things going, here are some bentos (symbolically or literally) which tells more about who I am!

Bento #201

Hm…where shall I start?
This bento box contains a hamburger with fries (gasp horror I know) with some cheese, onigri, hard boiled egg, strawberries and chocolate (double gasp, he he).

Now some explanation….

  • Hamburger and fries – Deep down, I’m a hardcore food junkie (but don’t let MP know OK as I’m on a slow reform path and hope to set some healthy eating example and hence why I bento for him and ensure that he eats a well-balanced meal!!). I absolutely adore fries – my favourite during Uni days would be to mix them with a good sprinkling of pepper and salt/soya sauce. (ewww to you maybe but trust me, they taste great but probably a major artery clogger or heart stoper....ah, the joys of youth!).
  • Plane onigri – I love to travel and explore the world. Hence also included a small pair of ‘boots’ (in the front). I enjoy hiking but since MP came along, this has really been put in the back-burner (if you know what I mean, maybe when he is slightly older this can resume but being a ‘city’ boy he’ll probably be complaining ewwww – dirty, tired, dusty, sweaty and too many mosquitoes and leaches, etc.!!! Only problem is that as I age, the 'easy and comfortable lure' seems a better choice, Lolz.)
  • Boiled egg – The seaweed decal probably speaks for itself, I enjoy a good cuppa java anytime of the day and can’t get by the mornings without one!! Eggs are low in carbs and a very familiar Akins-friend.
  • Cheese & wine – Another delicious and elegant indulgence :) ha ha…need I say more.
  • Strawberries & chocolates (and all things sweet) – Not only do I have a savoury tooth, I also adore my sweet desserts and treats. I confess that it takes great restraints and sheer will power for me to refuse chocolates, so groans the waistline.

Ok, that about sums me up in a bento box!! Hope you enjoyed that blurb.

Bento #202

Just a simple jam (blueberry and blackberry are my favourite choice) sandwich with some grapes, strawberry and cereal (ok, I confess I too am addicted to those high sugar filled fruit loops).
Btw, do you know I have a severe caffeine addiction?!!

Bento #203

There are days when a simple ham and cheese sandwich with the works just hits the spot for me (preferably toasted) together with some endamame and my favourite fruits (kiwi, grapes and strawberry - erm, provided that they are not too sour or tart of course!).
Ha ha ha…endorsing my caffeine addiction AGAIN (last one ok)!!

Bento #204

Sometimes I get the ‘OMG I am getting old’ sudden shock realisation and out comes all my tubs and pots of expansive creams, lotions and other facial concoctions – yes, there is a VAIN side to me (there I said it)! Lolz. Sometimes, I think I look better with the mask, you know it hides all the blemishes, wrinkles and imperfections – ha ha ha.

Under the 'face' (inspired by Amorette) is some pizza slices (another fav food of mine, especially day-old cold ones) and also enjoy nutty snacks.
In my opinion, other than sunflowers, tulips are the most beautiful flower in the world. Only wished I stayed in cooler climate so that I can plant boxes full of them in my garden!!
Have always been fascinated with earrings but was forbidden by my dad to get them pierced. Even now, my dad still insist that the adult me leave my ear lobes hole-less and fashion-less! (sob!!)

All boxed up and read to go!

Bento # 205

Finally and probably more what I am expecting from most contestants since its for YOU who you are packing for but am ready for surprises (he he) - well, it really depends how you interpret the challenge. So I hope at the end of the day, you will agree with me that it is not a difficult challenge after all. (but I stand corrected).

Aside from my personal addiction confessions, I do occasionally enjoy a good wholesome meal – can’t say ‘NO’ to angel hair pasta with freshly grated parmesan (in blue container), salad (with lots of thinly sliced raw onions but without any dressing as I like it this way - 'naked salad' as I normall call it), herb garnishes like mint leaves or coriander, mangoes, strawberries (love durians too but that is a whole other meal on its own).
As for the 'smiley' face - well, I've been told that I have an easy going personality and seem to like to smile a lot (well I take that as a great compliment but not good for wrinkles!!).

............ok that's the end of my personal take on the challenge.

Hopefully it offers some ideas but I'd probably flaunted and broke stretch the basic bento packing rules a little! ha ha
Hope you also found it slightly interesting knowing a little about me.

ok, YOUR TURN NEXT!! ;)
