Before you start frowning at me, take it from me....it's REALLY is a good, clear and yummy soup!
Ingredients
1 small half ripe papaya, peeled and sliced
4 cloves garlic, minced
Carcass of 2 chicken
5-6 cups water
salt to taste
*optional - can add some 1-2 tbsp wolfberries Chinese herbs
ps. Wolfberry is suppose to improve eyesight, strengthen immune system, nourishes the liver and kidney, and activates blood circulation and delays aging.
Method:
1. With a little oil, fry garlic with papaya for a few minutes so that you get the flavours out.
2. Pour in water and add chicken bones.
3. Bring water to boil and then lower heat to simmer for about 2 - 2.5 hours.
4. When ready, add salt to taste.
Bench notes - Instead of chicken bones, other alternatives are pork bones, lean pork meat or chicken thigh (remove skin). If using pork meat/bones, scald/blanch it in boiling water for 5 min first to remove scum before using it in the soup. For the purist, you can use kampong or free-range chicken instead!

This is an unusual soup. I have only have semi ripe papaya in sweet soup, so I can't quite imagine how this tastes like. Will try it when I see semi ripe papaya in the market.
Hi Ivy, surprisingly it is a good soup (if I may say so myself). We have our own papaya tree and so when in abundant, this is what we do. Initially thought sonny boy would not be keen but he slurp up without any fussy and ate all the papaya! Hope you & your family like it.
Looks interesting!
heard papaya soup helps to increase b/milk .... wonder my man would brave this, hahaha
anyway, this is not a common soup in my mom's usual recipe or shd i say she has never made this.
maybe i shd try when my baobei needs soup in his diet later....
tks for sharing :D
:) Hi Emily - to live is to try?? he he
jacss, u'd be surprised...don't say its papaya soup and let the family guess!
I had it at least 4 times a week (cooked with fish) while I was b/f Baby Jo and only stopped 2 months ago when she turned 1. It's a very nourishing soup besides the "milk" part, specially for ladies. very "ji yoon". But my hubby wouldn't try a single drop. haha!
Hi Yeapies - u have a great bentoblog! Funny how man or some adults go repusel/double-standard at mention of breastmilk - hello...if good enuf for a baby, should be perfectly fine for others consumption right?? anyway to each its own he he
