...above wordings from Poa.

My whimsical imitation of Poa, the Mighty Kung-Fu Panda Warrior!!
On hindsight, I knew the brown spots were on the light side!

Master Prince enjoys watching Kung Fu Panda. So did I, did you??? Anyway, I recall this panda bread from Florence's blog a while back who adapted it from this Japanese website. Thought it would be fun to finally try this out.

Recipe adapted (which yields one small loaf)

184g bread flour
56g whole wheat flour
24g sugar
1 Egg + milk (enough to make it 168g)
3.6g salt
20g butter
3g instant yeast

1/2 tsp green tea powder for outer layer (I substitute with 1/4 tsp red coloured food powder because MP wanted it red not green!)
1/2 tsp cocoa powder for eyes and ears
  1. Mix everything except the green & cocoa powder and knead into a pliable dough.
  2. Set aside and rest for 60 min.

  3. Divide rested dough into 3 based on the following proportions and mix in the green tea & cocoa powder accordingly.
    75g chocolate dough (for 2.5g x 2 eyes and 17.5g x 2 ears)
160g white dough (for the face divided into 108g and 50g)
200g wrapping around (with green tea or red powder)

  4. Rest the dough for a further 50 min.
  5. For face, roll the larger portion of white dough into a log.
  6. For eyes, roll 2 pieces of the larger chocolate dough into a log. Place on top of the face.
  7. For forehead, roll the smaller piece of white dough and place it on top of the eyes.
  8. For the ears, roll 2 pieces of the smaller chocolate dough into a log. Place at the top of the head.

  9. Roll out the green dough and wrap your panda face around it.

  10. Place into a greased tin and proof for 1- 1.5 hours until double in size.
  11. Bake in pre-heated oven of 200 degrees for 25-30 min.

  12. Rest dough in tin for 10 min before removing and cool completely on rack.

The moment of truth @ the first slice (takes deep breath)....what will I find????

A panda face....*skips for joy*

More 'friendly' panda faces, timed nicely for yeast sporting hosted by Susan of WildYeast. Hm, wonder what she will think? Lolz

I think the green colour looks better but then Master Prince likes red so what to do??? In terms of taste, the bread taste like normal wholemeal bread with a soft crumb and slightly crusty exterior.

Hm, I think I'll give this another go but this time with green tea powder ;)
